Why was MHIR created?

Students invest time and energy in doing excellent work that never sees the light of day.

After grading, essays usually get filed away and forgotten.

This doesn’t benefit anyone.

MHIR steps in to provide a platform for the very best essays and research projects. It allows students to showcase their academic talents and share the work they’re most proud of.

The underlying principle is that students are ready to share knowledge with the wider world, and to contribute to the conversation in a meaningful way.

It’s time to champion that idea.

Background:

MHIR was developed in late 2024 by Matt Goolding during his Research Master’s in Modern History and International Relations at the University of Groningen (RuG). This formed part of a ‘Specialisation Phase’ during the degree, with supervision from Dr. Benjamin Herborth, Assistant Professor and Director of Studies for the Modern History and International Relations Research Master’s programme. Unless stated otherwise, each student contribution has been assessed and graded by a tutor and reviewed by a student peer.
